Revenue seize drugs worth over €4.6 million in Dublin and Athlone

Today (03/11/2023), as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dog Waffle, Revenue officers seized 210 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €4.2 million at Dublin Port. The illicit drugs were discovered concealed in large steel containers within three pallets originating from Germany and were destined for an address in Dublin. Investigations are ongoing.

In a separate operation today at Dublin Port, Revenue officers seized approximately 10 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €200,000. The discovery was made when Revenue officers stopped and searched a vehicle which had arrived from the United Kingdom. A man in his 30s was arrested by An Garda Síochána and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996, at a Garda Station in Dublin. Investigations are ongoing.

Separately, yesterday (02/11/2023), as a result of risk profiling, Revenue officers examining parcels at a premises in Athlone seized over 1.99 kgs of ketamine, 313 grammes of MDMA tablets, 118 grammes of MDMA powder and 31 grammes of cocaine with an estimated value of over €147,500. The illicit drugs were discovered in parcels which had originated in the Netherlands and were destined for addresses in Dublin. Investigations are ongoing.

Finally, also yesterday in another standalone operation, as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dog James, Revenue officers examining parcels at a premises in Dublin seized over 9 kgs of cannabis resin with an estimated value of €54,000 The illegal drugs were discovered in a parcel which had originated in Spain and were destined for an address in Dublin. Investigations are ongoing.
