Revenue seize over €12,000 cash at Dublin Port
Yesterday (18/01/2021), at Dublin District Court, Revenue officers were granted a three month cash detention order by Judge John Hughes. This followed the seizure on Sunday (17/01/2021), of over €4,300 at Dublin Port when, as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers stopped a car travelling to the UK.
Separately, last Saturday (16/01/2021), at Dublin District Court, Revenue officers were granted a three month cash detention order by Judge Treasa Kelly. This followed the seizure earlier in the day of almost €8,000 at Dublin Port, when as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers stopped a car travelling to Romania via the UK.
In both cases, the cash is suspected to be the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity and is detained by Revenue in accordance with proceeds of crime legislation.
Investigations are ongoing.
This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing work targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity. If businesses, or members of the public have any information , they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295.
